Meet Matt Wilkinson – NF&W Festival

Noosa Food & Wine Festival

With just 4 weeks to go till the Noosa Food & Wine Festival, we are getting final preps underway to make this year’s NFW Tours the best ones yet! We have our signature Taste of the Hinterland tour featuring local Sunny Coast boutique producers, as well as the addition of the Wellness Experience with Shambhala Farm on offer this year.

On Friday 17th May our Taste of the Hinterland tour will be partnering with Melbourne chef Matt Wilkinson for a foodie feast you wont want to miss. Hand-picking heirloom produce from spectacular The Falls Farm before a lazy long lunch at Hinterland Feijoas where the meal will be perfectly paired by wine experts from Mr Riggs winery.

We are super excited to be featuring Mr Riggs Wine at all our Taste of the Hinterland events – cheers to that!

Over to Matt…

How long have you been cooking?
I started cooking in 1996 aged 16, leaving home at 17 from Yorkshire in the north of England to London. aged 19 i moved to Edinburgh to hone in only skills with chef Martin Wishart before moving out to Australia in 2000, for some reason England never wanted me back.
Most exciting moment as a chef?
I have had many great moments spanning the 20 odd years cooking. Highlights include my first book coming out in 2012, Mr Wilkinson’s Favourite vegetables also co-writing my third book with me wife Sharlee called Mr & Mrs Wilkinson’s how it is at home.
What word/s best describes your food?
Tasty, textured and enjoyable. i cook food that is approachable but leads with favour first always thinking about where that food has come from.
What is your favourite produce to work with?
I love working with vegetables, so diverse and wonderful.
What are you looking forward to most about joining the Taste of the Hinterland Farm Trail?
Interacting with the guests and learning at the same time. i’m also a tad excited about the feijoa farm as it will be my first time.
